#FFFFFF

Seventh Judicial District - District Court Judge

Honorable Charles R. Greenacre

Retention Year: 2002
Recommendation: Retain

The Seventh Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Charles R. Greenacre BE RETAINED.

Judge Greenacre is a graduate of the University of California, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received his law degree from Georgetown University. Judge Greenacre was admitted to the practice of law in Colorado in 1972. He spent 20 years in private practice where he specialized in criminal law and real estate, and five years as a Montrose County Court Judge before being appointed District Court Judge in May 2000.

Judge Greenacre’s workload consists of 47% civil, 8% domestic relations, 30% felony and 15% juvenile cases. The Commission found Judge Greenacre to be courteous yet firmly in control of his courtroom. Judge Greenacre manages his docket in an efficient manner, makes his rulings based on the merits of the case at hand and applies the law even handedly.

Judge Greenacre see his strengths as his administrative skills and his ability to streamline the case management process to reduce the number of cases set for trial. He believes that he hears all sides and decides cases on the facts and law without prejudice. He would like to improve on staying current with new legal decisions and trends, making oral rulings from the bench and expediting issuing written orders. Judge Greenacre’s goals for the year include scheduling more time for general reading and attending continuing education programs. He would also like to take more time when making oral rulings.

The Commission conducted public hearings, interviews with attorneys and non-attorneys, a personal interview with the judge and reviewed Judge Greenacre’s self-evaluation. The Commission was fully satisfied with Judge Greenacre.

Judge Greenacre, aside from his work on the bench, has served on the Montrose Chamber of Commerce Education Committee for six years and is currently on the board of the Montrose Youth Community Foundation.
Ninety-five percent of attorneys responding to the evaluation recommended that Judge Greenacre be retained. Of the non-attorneys, 81% recommended retention. The Commission recommends that District Court Judge Greenacre be retained.
