Recommendation: Retain

The Fourth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance, by a unanimous vote of 9-0, recommends that Judge Jonathan L. Walker BE RETAINED. One Commissioner was absent.

Judge Walker received an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Wayne State Law School. He served with the U.S. Army Special Forces in Southeast Asia in the Vietnam era. Judge Walker has been very involved in community service activities including board membership with both ARC and Urban League of the Pikes Peak Region, volunteering with the Community Coordinated Response Committee and Local Access to Justice Committee and serving as a Teen Court and Mock Trial judge. He has continued his legal education through attendance at a variety of legal and judicial education seminars.

Judge Walker was appointed to the County Court bench in May, 2007. Prior to his appointment he served nine years as the Deputy Public Defender in the Office of the State Public Defender. Previous to his public defender position he was in private litigation practice for twenty years.

Results of the 2010 Judicial Performance Survey Report: Attorneys indicate that Judge Walker scored somewhat above average in all areas when compared to all county judges and scored above average in all areas on the survey of non-attorneys. Approximately two hundred attorneys and non-attorneys participated in the survey.

Of all attorneys surveyed about retention, 80% recommended to retain, 16% not to retain and 5% expressed no opinion. Excluding those who had no opinion, 84% recommended to retain and 17% not to retain. Of all non-attorneys surveyed, 90% recommended to retain, 4% not to retain and 7% expressed no opinion. Excluding those who had no opinion, 95% recommended to retain and 4% not to retain. (These percentages may not total 100% due to rounding.)
