Tracey, John 1992 Evaluation

Tenth Judicial District - District Court Judge

Honorable John R. Tracey

Retention Year: 1992
Recommendation: Retain

John R. Tracey was admitted to the practice of law in 1945. He was in private practice until appointed to the county court bench in Pueblo County in 1973. He presided in County Court until 1983 when he was appointed to the District Court bench. Judge Tracey is presently the Chief District Court Judge and presides over Division D of the District Court. His caseload includes criminal, civil, domestic, juvenile, and water court matters.

A survey conducted to evaluation the performance of Judge Tracey sought responses from members of law enforcement, courthouse personnel, attorneys, jurors, litigants and members of the community. Comments were made concerning his administrative abilities; however, these comments were not considered in his ratings as it is not a function of the Commission to evaluate him as an administrator, but as a judge. Some responses to the survey indicated Judge Tracey could improve on his legal rulings. Most responses, however, praised Judge Tracey for being patient, fair, and understanding and having honestly and integrity. Of the persons responding to the survey, 89% recommended the retention of Judge Tracey.

The 10th Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge John R. Tracey be retained.
