First Judicial District - District Court Judge

Honorable Jane A. Tidball

Retention Year: 2002
Recommendation: Retain

The First Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Jane A. Tidball BE RETAINED.

Judge Tidball was appointed to the First Judicial District Court bench in August 1998. Prior to her appointment in the First Judicial District, Judge Tidball was, in reverse order, a magistrate in the Boulder District Court, a staff attorney for the Resolution Trust Corporation and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and a private practitioner in Denver with emphasis on contracts, securities and real estate after having had experience with personal injury, medical malpractice and products liability. In the First Judicial District Court Judge Tidball hears civil, domestic and criminal cases.

Judge Tidball is articulate, has a professional demeanor, strives for efficiency in the court and works to do the right thing. Her goals are to improve her judicial demeanor and to actively seek attorney feedback. Her commitment to moving her docket forward by hearing cases on the day scheduled, promptly addressing written motions, and reducing the number of open cases from starting date to present, is to be commended. She continues to round out her judicial proficiency by studying more case law.

Judge Tidball works actively in the community by speaking frequently at schools and organizing field trips to the courthouse for students. She and her family also volunteer with the Jeffco Action Center throughout the year and are involved in Santa’s Workshop annually. Judge Tidball is a board member of the State Interdisciplinary Committee, which seeks to enhance the treatment of children in divorce proceedings. She also serves on many statewide committees charged with increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the judicial process.

Attorneys surveyed recommended by 88% that Judge Tidball be retained in office, 8% recommended that she not be retained and 4% had no opinion. Non-attorneys surveyed recommended by 90% that Judge Tidball be retained in office, 5% recommended that she not be retained and 5% had no opinion.
