Judge Joel S. Thompson received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Colorado in 1980. Judge Thompson was admitted to the practice of law in 1980. He was in private practice until he was appointed District Judge of the Fourteenth Judicial District Court in 1994.
Judge Thompson currently hears all district court cases, which include civil cases involving more than $10,000, criminal, domestic and juvenile cases.
The Commission received responses to questionnaires sent to courthouse personnel, law enforcement, jurors and attorneys. Judge Thompson received high marks for clarity of oral and written opinions, integrity, and control of the courtroom. Judge Thompson is very punctual, energetic and hard working.
