Judicial Performance Commission’s recommendation: Should Be Retained.

Judge Stuart was admitted to practice law in 1972. He served as deputy public defender from 1972-78, and a period of time was chief attorney in the Denver public defender’s office. He was in private practice for approximately three years before being appointed to the District Court in 1981. While in private practice, Stuart served as a small claims court referee on a half-time basis. Stuart is a highly experienced judge who has handled all of the assignments of the Arapahoe County District Court during his nine-year tenure.

Most responses were that Stuart is well prepared. Several characterized him as a legal scholar. His staff received excellent ratings from jurors who were polled. There were a few responses that criticized Stuart’s temperament in responding to lawyers and police personnel.
