Eighteenth Judicial District - Elbert County Court Judge

Honorable Kevin SidelĀ

Retention Year: 2002
Recommendation: Retain

The Eighteenth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Kevin Sidel BE RETAINED.

Since taking the bench in Elbert County in 1995, Judge Sidel has distinguished himself as a County Court Judge and part-time District Court Magistrate. As a judge in a rural county, Judge Sidel handles a wide variety of cases dealing with all parts of the law, both criminal and civil. Judge Sidel has prudently utilized the influence of the bench during his career to address some of the problems that exist in a growing county. Prior to his service as judge, he served as Deputy District Attorney for the Eighteenth Judicial District.

Of the 455 people surveyed (46.5% responding), Judge Sidel was at or above par in virtually every category, including courtesy, fairness, impartiality, communication and professional demeanor. Ninety-six percent of the attorneys and 86% of the non-attorneys surveyed felt that Judge Sidel should be retained.

In addition to his judicial duties, Judge Sidel also is self-employed as a part-time mediator. His involvement in the community includes speaking at local schools and acting in an advisory capacity as needed to the County's Child Protection Team. The Commission was highly impressed with Judge Sidel.
