The State Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Justice Gregory Kellam Scott BE RETAINED.
Justice Scott was admitted to the Bar of Colorado in 1977. He was a trial attorney with the Denver Regional Office of the United States Securities & Exchange Commission for more than two years. Since 1980, Justice Scott has been a professor of law at the University of Denver College of Law and engaged in the private practice of law. He was appointed to the Colorado Supreme Court on September 14, 1992 and took office on January 15, 1993.
Justice Scott has been actively involved in the American, Colorado and Sam Cary Bar Associations. He has also devoted time to civic, community legal education programs. Justice Scott has published numerous articles in the fields of securities law, business and contract opportunities for small business firms, mergers and acquisitions and civil rights jurisprudence. The State Commission was impressed with Justice Scott’s willingness to make himself available to give speeches about the legal system to high school, junior high school and community organizations throughout the state of Colorado. The Commission also views Justice’s Scott’s practice and academic experience in the field of commercial law as an asset to the Colorado Supreme Court.
Attorney questionnaires received by the State Commission rate Justice Scott highly overall. He received high marks for integrity, equal treatment of all persons, knowledge of the law and procedure and attentiveness and patience during oral arguments. Of the responses received from attorneys, 90% voted to retain Justice Scott, 10% had no opinion and 0% voted not to retain Justice Scott.
