The Fourth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance, by a unanimous 8 to 0 vote with 2 members absent, recommends Judge Steven T. Pelican BE RETAINED.
Judge Pelican is an experienced judge, who has spent 20 years on the bench. During this time, he has overseen criminal, civil, family and domestic cases, and has enjoyed his work for many reasons. Before becoming a judge, he was a trial lawyer in private practice specializing in civil, criminal and family litigation. Most recently Judge Pelican’s assigned workload consist of domestic relations, felony and criminal cases.
Judge Pelican believes that community service is important. His main volunteer activity is being a board member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The Commission evaluated Judge Pelican using surveys submitted by 127 attendees in his court. These surveys included written comments. The Commission also considered a written self-evaluation by Judge Pelican, performed courtroom observation and conducted a personal interview.
Judge Pelican scored high in all areas of the survey, which include demeanor, fairness, communications, diligence and application of the law. Of the attorneys surveyed, 90% strongly recommended he be retained. Of non-attorneys, 89% strongly recommended his retention.
