The Fourth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge James S. Patterson BE RETAINED.

Judge Patterson was appointed to the El Paso County Court back in 1991. Prior to that appointment, he had been a Deputy District Attorney from 1974 to 1981 and then had been in private practice from 1981 to 1991. From 1986 to 1991, he was also a part-time Colorado Springs Municipal Judge.

Judge Patterson graduated from the University of Colorado (Boulder) in 1971 and from the University of Arkansas Law School in 1974.

The Judge presides over a docket of traffic, misdemeanor, and civil cases, including many domestic restraining order situations.

The survey results were generally very positive for Judge Patterson. 89.5% of the attorneys recommended retention, while 100% of litigants, law enforcement personnel, and court and probation employees, who were polled, also recommended that Judge Patterson be retained.
