Judge J. Steven Patrick was appointed to the District Court Bench in January 1993. He had previously served as County Court Judge for Gunnison County from July 1991. Prior to service on the bench, Judge Patrick was engaged in the private practice of law, with a primary focus on civil cases. The caseload handled by Judge Patrick is apportioned 30% civil cases, 20% to domestic relations, 35% to criminal law, and 15% to juvenile cases.
Judge Patrick generally received favorable to excellent ratings from all persons responding to the evaluation. Law enforcement rated Judge Patrick’s performance as excellent. Courthouse personnel rated his performance overall quite high, with improvement needed in the area of clear and prompt decisions. The attorney evaluations were practically unanimous in positive responses and praise for ability, with Judge Patrick receiving a 98% retention recommendation.
