The First Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Roy G. Olson BE RETAINED.
Judge Roy Olson was appointed to the Jefferson County Court bench in April 1990. Prior to that Judge Olson was in private practice as a lawyer specializing in criminal, juvenile and family law.
Judge Olson is very involved in the Jefferson County community. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees with Forest Heights Lodge, an Evergreen-based organization that treats emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. He has contributed his time to Drive Smart Evergreen and speaks to high school students on a regular basis about the court system.
Judge Olson is a member of the District Attorney's Task Force on Domestic Violence, and has served for eight years as a member of the Community Responsibility Center's Board of Directors.
Of the attorneys surveyed, 88% favored retention, 7% favored non-retention and 5% had no opinion. Of the non-attorneys surveyed, 84% favored retention, 5% favored non-retention and 11% had no opinion.
The Commission was impressed with the results of the survey regarding Judge Roy Olson's performance as a County Court Judge. Those surveyed commented on Judge Olson's positive judicial demeanor and impartial decision-making abilities. Judge Olson indicated that his goal is to continue to achieve a high level of performance as a judge with emphasis on improving his skills in the area of negotiating civil litigation settlements.
