Judge Naves was one of the most highly rated judges in the Denver District Court, according to the results of the questionnaires received by the commission. He was one of the few judges to receive high marks in all categories from probations officers, jurors, litigants, court staff members, law enforcement officers and attorneys. The results confirm he is a hard worker who acts decisively and is courteous to those who come before him. He maintains excellent case management and courtroom control in a professional and timely manner. Naves is rated high as a professional who is free of impropriety, racial or sexual prejudice, or favoritism toward any group.

Naves graduated from the University of Denver in 1968 and received his law degree from the University of Colorado in 1974. He was admitted to the Colorado bar on Oct. 16, 1974. Prior to Naves’ appointment he served as a deputy state public defender from 1974 to 1979. From 1979 to 1984 he practiced as an Assistant Federal Public Defender. In 1984, he went into private practice with the law firm of Schoenwald, Burke & Naves. Naves was appointed to the bench on Jan. 13, 1987. He was assigned first to the domestic relations division and moved to the criminal division in 1988. Naves presently serves in the civil division.

Naves is married and has three children. Based on the unusually high favorable responses in the questionnaires, Naves definitely should be retained.
