The Seventeenth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Chris Melonakis BE RETAINED.
Judge Melonakis is currently assigned to the Juvenile Division. He has done two year rotations in the Civil Division, the Criminal Division, and the Domestic Relations Division. Judge Melonakis was appointed to the Seventeenth Judicial District bench on May 26, 1998. Prior to this he was in private law general practice.
Judge Melonakis has made many efforts to create a cost-effective “Model Court”. His case processing has been among the best in the state. He has served on numerous committees including: the Public Access Committee, Court Improvement Committee, and Judicial Conference Planning Committee. He was named the Colorado CASA Judge of the Year in 2003 and the Adams / Broomfield CASA Judge of the year in 2003, 2004, and 2005. He was designated as a National Model Court and National Model Court Lead Judge by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.
The Commission reviewed written evaluations of Judge Melonakis from both attorneys and non-attorneys responding to a professionally conducted survey. Of the attorneys responding to the survey 92% recommended that he be retained. From the non-attorneys responding 79% recommended retention. Further, the Commission conducted a personal interview with the Judge and was impressed with his commitment to maintaining high judicial standards.
