McMullen, John 1998 Evaluation

Second Judicial District - District Court Judge

Honorable John N. McMullen

Retention Year: 1998
Recommendation: Retain

The Second Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge John N. McMullen BE RETAINED.

Judge McMullen graduated from the University of Colorado Law School after receiving his undergraduate degree at West Point.

Before being appointed as a district judge in August 1983, Judge McMullen spent eleven years in the Denver district attorney's office and less than two years with a firm primarily defending insurance claims.

Judge McMullen's current assignment is in the criminal division. Based on observation of Judge McMullen's performance on the bench, and review of written opinions, together with a review of survey results and his self-evaluation, the Commission finds that Judge McMullen's work as a district judge over the past fifteen years has been exemplary.

In survey results, attorneys voted 78.1% to retain, 15.6% not to retain, and 6.3% had no opinion. Law enforcement officers voted 95.8% to retain and 4.2% not to retain. Jurors voted 92.8% to retain, 3.6% had no opinion and 3.6% voted not to retain.
