The Fourth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Sylvia A. Manzanares BE RETAINED.
Judge Manzanares grew up in the Trinidad, Colorado area. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Colorado Law School at Boulder, from which she graduated in 1977.
Judge Manzanares was appointed to the County Court bench in August 1995. The County Court bench hears cases concerning domestic violence, restraining orders, civil cases involving amounts of $15,000 and under and miscellaneous traffic offenses and misdemeanors. Among attorneys, Judge Manzanares received a recommendation of 77% for retention while non-attorneys responded to the survey with a recommendation of 83% for her retention.
Judge Manzanares sees herself as always striving to improve her judicial skills, including more clearly communicating with litigants and attorneys. She considers her ability to listen and process evidence efficiently as one of her strengths.
