Judge Charles Dennis Maes has been a Pueblo District Court Judge for the past seven years. Before going on the bench, Judge Maes was in private practice, was a public defender in the Pueblo Public Defender’s Office, and was past director of Pueblo County Legal Services.

As a district court judge, Judge Maes presides over civil, domestic relations, criminal and juvenile cases.

A survey was conducted to evaluate the performance of Judge Maes from members of law enforcement, attorneys, litigants, jurors, and court personnel. A couple of responses to the survey suggested Judge Maes at times lacked patience and was quick to make certain decisions. The overwhelming majority of the responses, however, praised Judge Maes for his sense of justice, treatment of all parties equally, knowledge of the law, promptness and ability to control his courtroom.

Based on the surveys evaluating performance, Judge Maes is highly rated for his knowledge of the law, sense of justice, decision making ability and work ethic. Judge Maes received a very high overall rating for retention.
