The Second Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge John W. Madden IV BE RETAINED.
Background: Judge Madden was appointed to the Denver District Court bench in July 11, 2006. Judge Madden received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado and received his Juris Doctorate from CU Law School.
The Commission reviewed survey results and comments from persons who have appeared in Judge Madden’s courtroom including prosecuting and defense attorneys; and non-attorneys, including jurors, probation officers, law enforcement officers, witnesses and defendants. The Commission also conducted a personal interview with Judge Madden and reviewed his self evaluation.
Strengths: Judge Madden in his short time on the bench has proven to be an excellent jurist. He has spent 75% of his time on felony criminal matters and 25% on civil cases. His written decisions are thorough and well reasoned. Both attorneys and non attorneys gave Judge Madden high grades overall and exceptional grades for communication skills, demeanor and application and knowledge of the law.
Recommendation: 100% of the attorneys surveyed recommended that Judge Madden be retained. Of the non-attorneys surveyed, 99% recommended that he be retained.
