Looney, Mary Jane 1992 Evaluation

Fourth Judicial District - District Court Judge

Honorable Mary Jane Looney

Retention Year: 1992
Recommendation: Retain

Judge Mary Jane Looney comes up for her first retention vote in the forthcoming election. Judge Looney was a County Court Judge before being appointed to the District Court for the Fourth Judicial District. Judge Looney received uniformly high marks in all areas of evaluation. In fact, of the 106 people responding to the questionnaires, only two individuals recommended that Judge Looney not be retained. An overwhelming percentage would retain Judge Looney on the District Court bench.

Some of the comments relating to Judge Looney are that she is one of the finest, if not the finest, district court judges we have on the bench at the present time. Although Judge Looney received only a 85% retention recommendation, this was due to a fairly significant number of individuals (12.3%) who had no opinion on retention of Judge Looney. The individuals with no opinion had not practiced before her and therefore, it can be fairly inferred this was the reason for their no opinion comment.

The 4th Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Mary Jane Looney be retained.
