Eighteenth Judicial District - District Court Judge
Honorable Scott W. Lawrence
Retention Year: 1996
Recommendation: Retain
The Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Lawrence BE RETAINED.
Judge Lawrence was appointed to the District Court bench in 1993. Prior to that time, he was an attorney with the law firm of Epstein, Lawrence and Molk, specializing in personal injury litigation. He also served as a Deputy District Attorney for Arapahoe County. Judge Lawrence presides in Douglas and Elbert Counties. He has a diversified docket, including civil, domestic relations, felony and juvenile matters.
Judge Lawrence was highly rated in evaluations by law enforcement personnel, jurors, court personnel and attorneys. He was rated particularly high in areas of clarity of his written and oral decisions, his control over the courtroom and his courtesy and diligence. During the time of the evaluations, Judge Lawrence handled several complex and lengthy civil and criminal cases.
Judge Lawrence acknowledged the difficulty in sitting in two counties and the strain that impinges upon his workload in each area. One of his objectives for self-improvement is to handle administrative matters more carefully. Another is to make certain that his service in two counties does not result in unreasonable delays for decisions for litigants and attorneys.
