The Fifth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge David R. Lass BE RETAINED.

Judge Lass received his bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University in 1965 and his law degree from Wayne State University in 1968. Judge Lass has served as district judge since 1996 after serving 10 years as Summit County Judge. He remains a candidate for a Masters Degree in Judicial Studies at the National Judicial College, with only his thesis to complete.

Judge Lass continues to receive high marks in all areas: knowledge of the law, his courtroom demeanor, and consideration given to litigants and cases. He sits primarily in Summit County and continues to also sit in Lake County. He continues to be devoted to his work and is now enjoying less travel related to his responsibilities which enables him to have more time to write opinions and orders in a timely manner. Judge Lass consistently works toward perfection in all his duties. The Fifth Judicial Commission feels that Lass's performance is such that others should emulate him.

The opinions of the groups responding in statistically meaningful numbers to the surveys circulated by the State Commission on Judicial Performance (and the numbers responding) were as follows: Non-attorney (80) – Retain – 85%, Undecided – 8%, Do not retain – 7%; Attorneys (45) – Retain – 95%, Undecided – 2%, Do not retain – 3%.
The Fifth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Lass be retained.
