Judge James was admitted to the Colorado bar in 1977. She was in private practice in Craig from 1977 until she was appointed as Moffat County Court judge in 1984.
James presides over traffic and misdemeanor criminal cases, including drunken driving cases, preliminary hearings in felony matters, small claims cases and civil cases involving claims up to $5,000.
Jurors and litigants who were surveyed found that James conducted her courtroom in a fair, helpful and courteous manner.
