The Fourth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Barney Iuppa BE RETAINED.

Barney Iuppa graduated from the University of Denver School of Law in 1973 and was subsequently admitted to the Bar of Colorado. From 1973 through 1976, he was a Public Defender, Colorado Springs Regional Office. From 1977 through 1984, he was in private practice with emphasis on trial law. From 1984 through 1989, he was the District Attorney of the 4th Judicial District. From 1989 through 1995, he was in private practice. He has been an El Paso County Judge from 1995 through present.

In the self-evaluation, Judge Iuppa described his strengths as maintaining an efficient courtroom in which the docket can move expeditiously, with 20 years of litigation experience. Judge Iuppa defined his goals as attending more legal and court workshops.

To his credit, the majority of those polled believe he is competent and fair. The section of the poll in which various groups evaluate Judge Iuppa was quite favorable. Of those responding, 90.9% of court/probation employees, 73.7% law enforcement, 100% crime victims, 96.9% jurors and 69% attorney's felt he should be retained.

Given these responses, it is the recommendation of the Commission that Judge Iuppa be retained.
