The Judicial Performance Commission of the Second Judicial District recommends that Judge Hyatt BE RETAINED.

Judge Hyatt earned a Bachelor’s degree in English for St. Louis University in 1972. Judge Hyatt was a member of the University of Missouri Law School law review editorial staff, and attended law school after a brief career as a television news reporter and anchorman.

After graduating from law school in 1977, Judge Hyatt served as a law clerk to the Chief Justice of the Missouri Supreme Court for one year. Later, Judge Hyatt worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Colorado.

Judge Hyatt was appointed to the Denver County Court in 1984 and was later appointed in January 1988 to the district court bench. Since 1988, Judge Hyatt has been assigned to the civil, criminal and domestic relations divisions of the district court, and presently hears civil cases.

Judge Hyatt received the Denver Bar Association Award for Judicial Excellence in 1995. Judge Hyatt regularly speaks in Denver schools concerning the judicial process.

Attorney survey responses for Judge Hyatt rate him very highly in all categories including displaying the appropriate sense of justice, finding facts without public influence, treating all parties equally, displaying appropriate knowledge of the law and evidence, and courteousness, display of compassion, and hard work.

Written survey results showed that 90.2% of attorneys favored retention; 2.4% of attorneys favored non-retention; and 7.3% of attorneys had no opinion.
