The First Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Charles T. Hoppin BE RETAINED.


Judge Hoppin was appointed to the County Court in 1996. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Hoppin specialized in the areas of domestic relations, criminal defense and civil litigation. While on the bench, his workload has consisted of civil litigation, felony, misdemeanor and traffic cases.


The Commission found Judge Hoppin to be a hard-working individual who is dedicated to becoming an outstanding judge. Judge Hoppin is highly respected in the courthouse and is an outstanding example to other judges regarding his demeanor. Judge Hoppin serves on the Jefferson County Board of Community Corrections and is a member of the advisory group for the Jefferson County Mediation Services Program.


Of the attorneys surveyed, 93% favored retention, 3% favored non-retention and 5% had no opinion. Of the non-attorneys surveyed, 90% favored retention, 1% favored non-retention and 10% had no opinion.
