The Twenty-First Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Craig P. Henderson BE RETAINED.
Judge Henderson was born and raised in Colorado. He received his undergraduate degree in History from McPherson College in 1991 and his law degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, in 1994. In addition to his duties on the bench, Judge Henderson volunteers time as a mock trial competition jurist and speaks to groups of children about issues relating to the legal profession.

Prior to becoming a member of the Colorado judiciary, Judge Henderson practiced law in both the private sector and as a prosecutor. Judge Henderson spent time practicing in the areas of criminal defense, civil litigation and insurance defense, both in Colorado and in Kansas. Additionally, Judge Henderson served as a prosecutor in various offices in Colorado including Mesa County where he served from 2002 until appointed to the bench by the Governor in 2005.

Judge Henderson was evaluated through attorney and non-attorney surveys, written opinions, a self evaluation and an interview with the commission. Attorneys graded Judge Henderson well in most areas. Non-attorneys consistently graded Judge Henderson as a high performer whose grades exceeded those of county court judges statewide.

The Commission determined through Judge Henderson’s self evaluation and interview that he is open to constructive criticism, strives to improve himself in any areas of weakness and appropriately seeks knowledge and information about areas of the law in which he may not have some expertise. The Commission did not find any areas of significantly poor performance.
