Judge Haas was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1951. He served as deputy district attorney for the Sixth Judicial District from 1957 to 1959 and was the district attorney from 1961 to 1967. He was in private practice from 1968 until his appointment to the District Court bench by Governor Lamm in 1981.
As chief judge, Haas oversees and administers all court functions for this district. He presides in criminal felony proceedings, civil proceedings and domestic relations cases as well as acting as the water judge for Water District 7.
All of surveyed groups rated Haas to be substantially above average and few negative comments were received concerning his performance, demeanor and fairness.
