The Third Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Leslie J. Gerbracht BE RETAINED.
Judge Gerbracht was appointed as District Judge on September 13, 2006. Judge Gerbracht graduated from Southern Illinois University Law School. She is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and currently serves as President of the Southern Colorado Bar Association. She is a member of the Trinidad State Junior College Educational Foundation and serves on the Scholarship Committee. Judge Gerbracht was also instrumental in establishing the Farmers Market in 2000 and volunteered for them until 2005.
Prior to Judge Gerbracht’s appointment, she was in private practice for about two years. She was also a Deputy State Public Defender for seven years.
After observation and review of Judge Gerbracht, the Commission determined that she has good control of her docket and treats parties fairly and equitably. She has good knowledge of legal issues and has a very good work ethic. Judge Gerbracht has undertaken a truancy program in the Trinidad area and is to be commended with her success with truant juveniles. One area of concern with the judge was her working knowledge of civil cases and this issue was addressed satisfactorily with the Commission.
Of all attorneys surveyed about retention, 89% recommended to retain, 4% not to retain and 8% expressed no opinion. Excluding those who had no opinion, 96% recommended to retain and 4% not to retain. Of all non-attorneys surveyed about retention, 73% recommended to retain, 14% not to retain and 14% expressed no opinion. Excluding those who had no opinion, 84% recommended to retain and 16% not to retain. (These percentages may not total 100% due to rounding.)
