Fourteenth Judicial District - District Court Judge
Honorable Richard P. Doucette
Retention Year: 1990
Recommendation: Retain
Judicial Performance Commission’s recommendation: Should Be Retained.
Judge Doucette was appointed to the district court bench in 1981. After graduating from law school in 1966, he was a special agent in the FBI. He served in that capacity until 1971 when he went into private practice until appointed to the bench.
Doucette handles felony and some misdemeanor criminal cases, juvenile proceedings, larger civil disputes, divorces, probate matters, mental health cases and appeals from county court cases.
His performance is well perceived by jurors, litigants and law enforcement people. Most attorneys believe his judicial reasoning is sound; however, some attorneys think he pre-judges cases, makes unnecessary comments not related to the issues at hand, and is short tempered.
