Based upon all available information, the Commission on Judicial Performance recommends Judge James C. Demlow BE RETAINED.
Judge Demlow was appointed to the county court in 1982. In 1967 he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked in the aerospace industry for six years. After earning a law degree in 1973, he spent a year in private practice, four years as a deputy county attorney and then four years as a magistrate in the First Judicial District. Among Judge Demlow’s community activities are the Colorado Children’s Campaign Doll Project, High School Mock Trial Program, Lakewood Breakfast Optimist Club, and Bright Beginnings Program. He is a member of the First Judicial District Domestic Violence Fast Track Committee and trains other judge in the area of domestic violence for the State Judicial Department. He is on the state Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division Committee.
Judge Demlow presides over civil, criminal, traffic, and domestic violence cases.
Surveys completed by attorney and jurors rated Judge Demlow highly in areas of fairness, demeanor, sense of justice and compassion. Those responding indicated that he is diligent, maintains control in his courtroom, and issues prompt rulings and decisions. The Commission received no survey responses concerning Judge Demlow from law enforcement personnel, court personnel and litigants.
