The Seventeenth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Michael A. Cox BE RETAINED.
Judge Cox received his law degree in 1979. He was appointed to the County Court bench on January 31, 1995. He has been presiding county court judge since 1998. He presides over traffic, misdemeanors, civil restraining orders and felony preliminary hearings.
Prior to his appointment, Judge Cox was in private practice.
Surveys completed by attorneys, county employees, law enforcement and probation employees noted that Judge Cox is efficient, considerate and fair. Judge Cox has taken notable steps to make the jury trial system more "juror friendly". A vast majority of those surveyed recommended that Judge Cox be retained.
