Judge Coughlin received a degree in Business Administration from St. Mary’s College in California and his law degree from the University of Colorado in 1972. He served as a Deputy District Attorney in Denver and worked for a large Denver law firm for eight years until he was appointed to the Denver County Court in March, 1980. In May 1985 he was appointed to the Denver District Court. Judge Coughlin has served in the criminal, domestic and civil divisions of the Denver District Court.

Survey results rated Judge Coughlin highly in all areas. Courtroom observation of Judge Coughlin by Commission members confirmed survey results that he is a patient, diligent judge who focuses on problem solving and promotes a relatively relaxed atmosphere.

The Second Judicial District Commission on Performance recommends Judge Coughlin BE RETAINED.
