The Judicial Performance Commission of the Second Judicial District recommends that Judge Burd BE RETAINED.
Judge Doris E. Burd graduated from the Temple University School of Law in 1975. Prior to her January 23, 1989 appointment as a county court judge, Judge Burd was in private practice for ten years as a sole practitioner and has served as clinical education supervisor at the University of Denver School of Law.
Judge Burd was appointed to the county court bench in January 1989 and currently hears civil protection order cases which primarily concern restraining orders in domestic relations situations. Judge Burd has also served in the traffic, civil and criminal divisions.
Questionnaires returned to the Commission by attorneys, courthouse personnel, jurors, and law enforcement all rate Judge Burd highly. Observations of Judge Burd on the bench by members of the Commission confirm that she is professional, courteous, compassionate and fair and able to handle a heavy case load. 1996, Judge Burd received the Judicial Excellence Award from the Denver Bar Association.
Judge Burd is particularly concerned about the problems facing many children in today’s society. She is a member of the Governor’s Commission on Juvenile Justice and the Delinquency Prevention Council and is also working n helping provide child care for parents who are involved in court proceedings as witnesses and/or litigants.
Written survey results showed that 87.5% of attorneys and 96.4% of jurors favored retention; 2.1% of attorneys and 3.6% of jurors favored non-retention; about 10.4% of attorneys had no opinion.
