Bronfin, Edward 2010 Evaluation

Second Judicial District - District Court Judge

Honorable Edward D. Bronfin

Retention Year: 2010
Recommendation: Retain

The Second Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends the Judge Edward D. Bronfin BE RETAINED.

Judge Bronfin became a Denver District Court Judge in July 2008. Prior to his appointment Judge Bronfin was a trial lawyer handling civil cases, primarily in the areas of medical and hospital malpractice, medical licensing issues and medical products liability. He received his undergraduate degree from St. John’s College with a degree in liberal arts and his law degree from the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver in 1981 and was awarded membership in the Order of St. Ives for academic achievement.
The Commission reviewed the results of surveys of lawyers and non-lawyers who were familiar with Judge Bronfin’s work, interviewed the Judge, and reviewed three of his written opinions. In addition selected members of the Commission observed Judge Bronfin in court.

The results of the surveys of lawyers and non-lawyers showed that Judge Bronfin was rated high in most areas, specifically in the areas of case management, communication, demeanor and diligence. As he is new to the bench, he was rated slightly below the average for overall application and knowledge of the law, consistent with other new judges reviewed during this period.

Of all attorneys surveyed about retention, 77% recommended to retain, 11% not to retain and 13% expressed no opinion. Excluding those who had no opinion, 89% recommended to retain and 12% not to retain. Of all non-attorneys surveyed, 85% recommended to retain, 5% not to retain and 9% expressed no opinion. Excluding those who had no opinion 93% recommended to retain and 6% not to retain. (These percentages may not total 100% due to rounding.)
