Considering all the data collected from the evaluations, the interviewing process, and observations of his courtroom, the Commission unanimously recommends that Judge David A. Bottger BE RETAINED.

Judge Bottger is a graduate of Notre Dame University School of Law and was admitted to practice in Colorado in 1976. He served one year as a law clerk for Colorado Supreme Court Justice Lee and then entered into private practice. In 1983 he moved his private practice to Grand Junction and later that year was appointed to serve as Mesa County’s first Magistrate. He served as Magistrate for 3.5 years and was appointed District Court Judge in 1987.

Evaluations were received from attorneys, law enforcement personnel, court personnel, jurors and litigants. The evaluations were very positive and out of 102 responses, only three recommended that he not be retained in office. Judge Bottger is highly rated for his sense of justice, knowledge of the law, courtroom control, diligence, fairness and compassion.

The Commission interviewed Judge Bottger and it was clear that he is an intelligent, articulate, hard- working, fair and creative jurist. He sees his job as a judge to be correct and to administer justice fairly, honestly and with compassion. Judge Bottger is enthusiastic about his work and has a strong desire to remain on the bench.
