The First Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously and strongly recommends that Judge Brian D. Boatright BE RETAINED.

Background: Judge Boatright was appointed to the First Judicial District Court bench in August 1999. His docket is limited to juvenile matters. Prior to having been appointed to the bench, Judge Boatright was a Deputy District Attorney and in private practice for several years. Judge Boatright is very much involved in community service. He speaks frequently at schools in the Jefferson County School District, as well as in leadership programs in Golden, Lakewood, and Jefferson County. He has also coached young peoples’ baseball for the last five years.

Strengths: Judge Boatright is a conscientious professional who is bright and articulate with an outstanding demeanor. He is knowledgeable both in the rules of evidence and in the law. He manages his caseload very efficiently, and is well prepared for court. He continues to educate himself on the intricacies of the law regarding some of the cases on which he must rule. He is patient and courteous to all who appear before him. He is well-respected both by the legal and non-legal communities.

Weaknesses: The Commission has not recognized and has been unable to discover any weakness which are worthy of note.

Recommendation: Of the attorneys polled, 95% recommended retention. Of non-attorneys polled, 97% recommended retention. Judge Boatright’s scores in most areas are at or near the top of the range for all judges in the state who were surveyed. The Commission strongly recommends that Judge Brian D. Boatright BE RETAINED.
