The Twenty-First Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Amanda D. Bailey BE RETAINED.
Judge Bailey is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, graduating in 1977. She began practicing in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1979 and continued that practice until 1990, when she was appointed to the Mesa County District Court.
Judge Bailey presides over a full docket of criminal, civil, probate, juvenile and other cases which fall within the jurisdiction of the District Court.
The commission unanimously agreed that Judge Bailey should be recommended for retention. This decision was based upon a review of the surveys which were completed by a variety of individuals who had an occasion to be involved with Judge Bailey, including but not limited to courthouse personnel, law enforcement personnel, attorneys, jurors and litigants. The decision of the commission was also based on an in-depth interview with Judge Bailey.
The commission found that Judge Bailey's performance as a judge had improved since her last review, approximately six years ago. The judge appears to be more confident and comfortable in her position as time passes.
The commission found Judge Bailey to be intelligent, conscientious and an extremely hard working judge. Judge Bailey was found to be tough, but fair to those who appear before her. Judge Bailey received high scores from both lawyers and non-lawyers on the surveys, scoring higher than the state average in virtually every category. Judge Bailey received a 90% retention rating.
