Nineteenth Judicial District - Weld County Court Judge
Honorable William G. Arries
Retention Year: 1996
Recommendation: Retain
A large majority of all surveyed groups recommended. Therefore, based on the written evaluations and personal interview, the 19th Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge William G. Arries BE RETAINED.
The majority of Judge William Arries’ current docket includes traffic and misdemeanor cases. Judge Arries also presides over a small percentage of civil, domestic, traffic infraction, and felony complaint cases.
Based on a review of written evaluations by court personnel, attorneys, jurors, and law enforcement, Judge Arries is considered to be a fair and knowledgeable judge who maintains courtroom control, hands down prompt rulings and decisions, and sentences more strictly than other judges in the 19th Judicial District.
Some attorneys perceive Judge Arries as lacking compassion. When asked by the Commission during an interview to comment on that concern, Judge Arries responded that he did have a great deal of compassion for victims, but little compassion of repeat offenders. Judge Arries views his position as a means to protect society.
