Eighteenth Judicial District - Douglas County Court Judge
Honorable Howard G. Allspach
Retention Year: 1990
Recommendation: Retain
Judicial Performance Commission’s recommendation: Should Be Retained.
Judge Allspach is a graduate of the University of Wyoming, where he received a bachelor of science and master’s degree in geology. He received his law degree from the University of Denver and was admitted to practice law in 1963. Before practicing law, Allspach worked as a geologist. He was appointed a county court judge in Douglas County in December 1986, and in the only county court judge in Douglas County. In his position, he hears criminal misdemeanor and traffic cases, felony cases through preliminary hearings and civil cases of up to $5,000.
Some attorneys expressed concern that Allspach maintains too close a public association with a former law partner. There is concern this relationship could lead to an appearance of favoritism. Allspach, in his interview with the commission, said he would make an effort to correct any such appearance in the future. Most responses commented he is a hard-working, competent judge.
