The Ninth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously agrees by a vote of 9-0 (with 1 vacancy) that Judge Anne K. Norrdin MEETS PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.

Judge Norrdin was appointed to the District Court bench in October 2016. She graduated from the University of Colorado in 2002 with degrees in Political Science and German and received her law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2005. Judge Norrdin worked for a year as a law clerk for the Hon. Lael Montgomery (retired) of the Boulder District Court. Then, Judge Norrdin worked as a deputy district attorney for the 1st Judicial District (Jefferson and Gilpin Counties; 2006-2008) and for the 9th Judicial District (Garfield, Pitkin and Rio Blanco Counties; 2008-2016), where she was employed as the assistant district attorney at the time of her appointment to the bench. Judge Norrdin has volunteered as a Big Buddy mentor through the local Buddy Program and as a scoring juror and a mock trial judge for the local high school mock trial program.

The Commission conducted a personal interview with Judge Norrdin, reviewed opinions she authored, observed her in court, and reviewed survey responses from attorneys, non-attorneys, court staff, law enforcement personnel, jurors and litigants who had experience with Judge Norrdin. Among the survey questions was “based on your responses to the previous questions related to the performance evaluation criteria, do you think Judge Norrdin meets judicial performance standards?” Of the attorneys responding to the survey, 83% answered yes; 6% answered no; and 11% had no opinion. Of the non-attorneys responding to the survey, 100% answered yes. A total of 18 attorneys and 20 non-attorneys responded to the judicial performance surveys expressing their opinion of Judge Norrdin.

Judge Norrdin presides over domestic relations, civil, criminal, juvenile, probate, mental health, misdemeanor and traffic matters in Glenwood Springs and Meeker. Judge Norrdin’s demeanor is described as being respectful, professional, dignified and fair. She brings clarity and answers to confusing, and often emotional and difficult issues. Her written decisions are clear, concise and well written. Judge Norrdin is an extremely hard worker. Judge Norrdin uses her natural intellect and efficiency to track new developments in the law, expand her practical and legal knowledge, and enhance the administration of justice in her court. Commission members observed these qualities during their evaluation and interview. Judge Norrdin’s opinions reflect her knowledge of the law and common sense communication style. Based on these findings the Commission unanimously agreed that Judge Anne K. Norrdin meets performance standards.
