The Seventeenth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously (10-0) agrees that Judge Amy Elizabeth Bockman MEETS PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.

Judge Bockman received her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in 1991 and her law degree from the University of Denver College of Law in 1995. Prior to being appointed to the Broomfield County Court in December of 2006, Judge Bockman was a magistrate in Denver County and prior thereto she was with the Colorado Public Defender’s Office. Since her appointment, Judge Bockman has continued to be involved in numerous community service activities related to the court system as well as organizations committed to providing food, rent, transportation and other assistance to Broomfield residents.

In evaluating Judge Bockman the Commission reviewed opinions she authored, observed her in court, conducted a personal interview, reviewed comments received from interested persons, and reviewed survey responses from both attorneys and non-attorneys who had experience in her court. Of 33 attorneys’ responding to the survey 73% answered that Judge Bockman met performance standards, 18% responded that she did not and 9% stated that they had no opinion. Of 67 non-attorneys responding to the survey 93% stated that she met performance standards, 4% stated that she did not and 3% had no opinion.

Judge Bockman has a varied docket consisting of approximately 20% civil matters, 20% criminal, 35% misdemeanor, 20% traffic and 5% small claims. Based on the Commission’s over all evaluation Judge Bockman has demonstrated that she meets or exceeds performance standards in all categories. Some attorneys responding to the surveys expressed concerns with regard to Judge Bockman’s overall courtroom demeanor, a category of Judicial Temperament which includes giving proceedings a sense of dignity, treating participants with respect and conducting her courtroom in a neutral manner. The Commission did not observe any concerns in these areas and was satisfied that her courtroom demeanor met or exceeded Judicial Performance Standards. Based on these findings the Commission unanimously agrees that Judge Bockman Meets Performance Standards with regard to Integrity, Legal Knowledge, Communication, Judicial Temperament, Administrative Performance and Service to the Legal Profession.
