The Twelfth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Amanda Pearson BE RETAINED.

Judge Pearson was appointed to the Saguache County bench on March 23, 1998. Ms. Pearson graduated from Adams State College in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and government. In 1987 she received her law degree from the University of Colorado and was admitted to the Colorado bar. Judge Pearson served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Twelfth Judicial District from October 1987 through February 1989, when she went into private practice. In addition to serving as the Saguache County Judge, Judge Pearson maintains a private practice and is the Municipal Judge for the City of Alamosa, a position she has held since 1991. Judge Pearson represents the Alamosa County Department of Social Services part-time as their attorney. This service was not seen as a conflict by the Judicial Performance Commission, as she serves in Saguache County as county judge.

As a county judge, Judge Pearson presides over traffic cases, misdemeanors, petty offenses, felony preliminary hearings, small claims, and civil cases not exceeding $15,000. In 2007 Judge Pearson’s incoming caseload included a total of 1546 cases with the majority being traffic cases.

Judge Pearson places a priority communicating effectively with individuals in the courtroom.

Non-attorney survey respondents provided both positive and negative feedback that indicates a balance in her judgment. Judge Pearson received high scores from the attorney surveys for issuing a decision promptly and without fear of being appealed. Judge Pearson believes that it is important for Judges to be leaders in their communities and participates in a variety of community service activities. Judge Pearson is respected and well received in her community.

She continues to strive to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Saguache County Court.
