The Twelfth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends the retention of Judge Amanda Kay Pearson as Saguache County Judge.


Judge Pearson was appointed to the Saguache County Bench on March 23, 1998. Judge Pearson graduated from Adams State College in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and government. In 1987 she received her law degree from the University of Colorado and was admitted to the Colorado bar. Judge Pearson served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Twelfth Judicial District from October 1987 through February 1989, when she went into private practice. In addition to serving as the Saguache County Judge, Judge Pearson maintains a private practice and is the Municipal Judge for the City of Alamosa, a position she has held since 1991.


As a County Judge, Judge Pearson presides over traffic cases, misdemeanors, petty offenses, felony preliminary hearings, small claims, and civil cases not exceeding $15,000.
Judge Pearson places a priority communicating effectively with individuals in the Courtroom. This priority is reflected in the survey results. Judge Pearson received her highest ratings from both attorneys and non-attorneys in the areas of speaking clearly, audibly, and using language that everyone can understand. Judge Pearson received equally high marks from attorneys for treating unrepresented parties fairly.

Judge Pearson believes that it is important for Judges to be leaders in their communities and participates in a variety of community service activities. Judge Pearson continues to strive to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Saguache County Court.
