The Seventh Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance, by unanimous vote, recommends Judge Sandra Miller BE RETAINED.
Judge Miller graduated from University of Texas Law School. She spent approximately eight years in private practice and three years as a deputy district attorney. Judge Miller was appointed to the Delta County Court bench in 2001. Aside from her work on the bench, she also serves as a founding member of the Delta County methamphetamine task force and works as a drug court judge.
Judge Miller’s workload consists of forty-five percent (45%) civil and fifty-five percent (55%) criminal. Judge Miller’s position is defined by the state as a part-time (75% FTE).
The Commission observed Judge Miller in the courtroom, reviewed her decisions, conducted a personal interview with Judge Miller and reviewed her written self-evaluation. The Commission found Judge Miller to be dignified and courteous in the courtroom. Judge Miller manages her docket in an efficient manner, makes rulings based on the merits of the case at hand and applies the law fairly and consistently.
Ninety-seven percent (97%) of attorneys responding to the evaluation recommended that Judge Miller be retained in office and three percent (3%) recommended that she not be retained. Of the non-attorneys, eighty-one percent (81%) recommended retention, twelve percent (12%) recommended non-retention, and seven percent (7%) had no opinion.
