The Seventh Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance, by unanimous vote, recommends Judge Alvin (Al) Lutz BE RETAINED.

Judge Lutz retired from Norwest Bank (now Wells Fargo) as director of corporate security. He was appointed to the Hinsdale County Court bench in 2006. After his appointment to the bench, Judge Lutz made an assessment of the court’s technology capabilities, its administrative and compliance practices, and physical security. As a result of his assessment, numerous changes and improvements have been implemented.

Judge Lutz’s workload consists of twenty-two percent (22%) civil and eighty-eight percent (88%) criminal (including traffic cases). Judge Lutz’s position is defined by the state as a part-time (20% FTE). The Commission observed Judge Lutz in the courtroom, reviewed his decisions, conducted a personal interview with Judge Lutz and reviewed his written self-evaluation. The Commission found Judge Lutz to be dignified and courteous in the courtroom. Judge Lutz manages his docket in an efficient manner, makes rulings based on the merits of the case at hand and applies the law fairly and consistently.

One-hundred percent (100%) of attorneys responding to the evaluation recommended that Judge Lutz be retained in office. Of the non-attorneys, one-hundred percent (100%) recommended retention.
