The Twelfth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that of Judge Frank Stannard Lentz BE RETAINED.
Judge Lentz was appointed in 2004 and sworn in as Mineral County Judge on January 11, 2005. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, in 1964, and a law degree from the same institution in 1967. After graduating from law school, he served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps and attained the rank of Captain. Judge Lentz is a founding member of the law firm of Lentz and Clark in Overland Park, Kansas. He handled a civil practice with an emphasis in bankruptcy for thirty years. Judge Lentz is a member of the Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri bars. He is also admitted to practice in the federal district courts in Kansas and Missouri and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
As Mineral County judge, Judge Lentz presides over traffic cases, misdemeanors, petty offenses, felony preliminary hearings, small claims, and civil cases not exceeding $15,000.
Judge Lentz believes that a judge should be actively involved in the local community. This is evidenced by his membership on the Creede Repertory Theater Board of Trustees, and his membership in the Elks Lodge #506 and the Creede Community Church. Judge Lentz hopes to pull together forty years of legal experience and put it to good use as the Mineral County judge.
Judge Lentz’s scores on the attorney surveys were as good as, or higher than, the overall averages for all county judges and trial judges in Colorado. One hundred percent of attorneys surveyed recommended “strongly retain” for Judge Lentz. There was an insufficient response rate for non-attorneys surveyed.
