The Second Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously recommends that Judge Claudia Jean Jordan BE RETAINED.

Background: Judge Jordan was appointed to the Denver County Court bench in July 1994. Prior to her appointment to the bench, she was an attorney in private practice from 1987 to 1994 and served as a trial attorney in the Colorado Public Defenders Denver office from 1982 to 1987. Judge Jordan received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in 1975, and in 1980 she graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law.

The Commission reviewed written evaluations of Judge Jordan from attorneys and non-attorneys, which included written comments. The Commission also considered a written self-evaluation completed by Judge Jordan and written orders issued by Judge Jordan. The Commission also conducted a personal interview with her.

Strengths: Judge Jordan received high ratings from attorneys and non-attorneys in many categories, particularly in the areas of promptly making rulings during trial and issuing a decision on the case after the trial; speaking clearly; making tough decisions when necessary; and her overall application and knowledge of the law. Judge Jordan participates in the community and feels that it is important for the community to see judges as an active and vital part.

Recommendation: Of the attorneys responding to the questionnaire, 89% percent recommended that Judge Jordan be retained. Of the non-attorneys responding to the questionnaire, 95% recommended retention.
