Jackson, Brooke 2000 Evaluation

First Judicial District - District Court Judge

Honorable Brooke Jackson

Retention Year: 2000
Recommendation: Retain

The First Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Brooke Jackson BE RETAINED.

Judge Jackson was appointed to the District Court for the First Judicial District in 1998. Prior to his appointment, Judge Jackson was a trial attorney in private practice for 26 years specializing in civil litigation. As a District Court Judge in 1999, Judge Jackson's caseload was comprised of civil, criminal, and domestic relations cases.

Of the attorneys surveyed, 90% favored retention, 6% favored non-retention and 4% had no opinion. Of the non-attorneys surveyed, 87% favored retention, 7% favored non-retention and 6% had no opinion.

Judge Jackson received high praise for his judicial temperament and courtesy in court.

Judge Jackson completed a self-evaluation where he noted a need to continue learning the law as it pertains to criminal and domestic relations cases. This also corresponded to some written comments on the surveys returned from attorneys.

The Commission had concerns regarding how Judge Jackson viewed his role as a judge. Judge Jackson assured the Commission that he understood his role.

Overall, the Commission found Judge Jackson to be a very intelligent, hard working individual who is dedicated to becoming an outstanding judge.
