Anderson, Adele 1992 Evaluation

Tenth Judicial District - Pueblo County Court Judge

Honorable Adele K. Anderson

Retention Year: 1992
Recommendation: Retain

Judge Adele K. Anderson was admitted to the practice of law in 1981. She was in private practice until appointed to the County Bench in Puebl0 in 1989. Judge Anderson presides over Division 2 of the County Court. Her caseload includes misdemeanors, criminal and traffic cases and civil cases where the amount of the dispute is less than $10,000.

A survey to evaluate the performance of Judge Anderson sought response from members of law enforcement personnel, attorneys, jurors, litigants and members of the community. A few responses to the survey indicated Judge Anderson was fair. Many responses, however, indicated Judge Anderson needed to improve her communications skills, judicial temperament, courtroom management skills, and her ability to show respect and sensitivity to those coming before her. Some responses indicated she needed additional knowledge and understanding of the law and needed to be more consistent in sentencing. Of the persons responding to the survey, 60% recommended retention of Judge Anderson.

The Commission communicated these concerns to Judge Anderson and she has initiated steps to address the concerns expressed in the responses. Notwithstanding her claim to follow through with corrective actions, the Commission concludes that the results are not sufficiently clear to make a firm recommendation, and therefore, the 10th Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance issues No Opinion on the retention of Judge Adele K. Anderson.
